Getting braces as an adult?

I had braces as a youngster but kind of need them again as an adult? Can I be too picky about my teeth? I really want to take care of my teeth so they're not causing problems later on, I'm 31. Is this feasable and is it possible for me to be too worried about my oral hygiene? Will co-workers thing it's odd if I get braces? I'd get clear brackets so they're less noticeable. Has anyone got braces as an adult after having them in youth, and what reaction did you get from family members and co-workers and acquaintances?
