Irritable bowel syndrome or something different?

Well i got told i had ibs 5 years ago, without any tests being done to see if it was anything different but now i am going to get some tests done to be sure because things have been getting pretty bad :/, but has anyone ever been told they had ibs and then found out later they had something different or more serious? Thanks :) xx
